We Hiked to Timpanogos Caves

Today we hiked to Timpanogos Caves today with our friends Jeff and Shara. It was about a 2 mile hike up to the caves and the children (our 2 and their 1) were troopers.

The first tunnel on the trail.

Our family of hikers. Today anyway.

The gated tunnel. Apparently they make sure that you can't hike the trail after hours.

Checking out the view at one of the many switchbacks.

Climbing one of the boulders along the trail.

This was an early part of the hike. Packing Bekah got harder the farther up the trail we went.

Jeff & Shara were able to move a little faster than we were. Here they are one switchback ahead of us looking down at the trail below.

Mom hiking with her children.

The view from the side of the trail.

The view from the top of the trail. The dots at the bottom of the mountain that look like bushes are actually the homes and businesses of the city we live in and the surrounding suburbs.

The tunnel at the top. This was actually a cougar's den at one time that led to the discovery of the caves. The discoverer was tracking a cougar to its den and found the caves instead. We did not see any cougars on our visit to the caves. Just this chipmunk who had to check out all of the people.

Jeff was giving his daughter an up close and personal look at the steepness of the side of the cliff, and the foliage too.

Daddy and Bekah getting ready to go into the cave.

Bekah got so worn out from being carried all day that she fell asleep on the way down. I love to hold my sleeping children. They seem so delicate and fragile and snuggly.

By the end of the day Benjamin had walked the majority of the 4 miles it took to hike up and down as well as the entire cave trail. He was a trooper and had a blast exploring his surroundings. Though, I'm not quite sure that he will want to go on that long of a hike with the adults again any time soon.
